2026

Sean Hopkins’ journey with Gaelic football began at St Peter’s Grammar School, where his passion for the game first developed. While in sixth form, he and several fellow pupils entered a nine-a-side competition in Manchester. Their success inspired the formation of St Peter’s GAA Club, which quickly established minor and U16 teams. The club went on to win the Minor, Junior and Senior Championships in consecutive years and was named Team of the Year by the Irish Sports Writers.

Sean’s involvement with St Peter’s has spanned several decades. As both player and manager, he has contributed to 11 Senior Championship victories. He also managed the senior team to three All-Britain titles and appearances in an All-Ireland Club Semi-Final and Quarter-Final.

Beyond club level, Sean was appointed International Manager twice during the late 1990s and served as Lancashire Manager for several years. He has also held numerous administrative roles within St Peter’s and the Lancashire County Board, including Secretary, Treasurer and County Board Chairman.

In 2024, Sean was elected President of the Provincial Council of Britain—the “Fifth Province”—for a three-year term. He now oversees Gaelic Games across Britain, encompassing 87 clubs, 45 universities and more than 500 school coaching initiatives.

The Fifth Province is experiencing remarkable growth, with youth registrations across Britain increasing by 34.4% since 2021. In April 2026, Gaelic Games received official recognition from Sport England, Sport Scotland and Sport Wales. The achievement followed 20 years of work by Gaels throughout Britain and will help transform the future growth of the games.

Sean also serves on Coiste Bainistí at Croke Park, where he works alongside the other Provincial Presidents as a director, helping to guide key aspects of the sport.

For Sean, Gaelic Games offer far more than competition. Wherever they are played, they create welcoming communities built upon lifelong friendship, connection and a shared sense of belonging.
